Dear participante! Welcome to the class date.

In this section I will explain how to take part in the class date.

1. What you need to know

Before taking part in the class date, you need some training on how to:

  • Use the questionnaire “My partners´ talents”
  • Start and stop speaking, rotate and change partner.
  • Use support material to contribute to your success.

Checklist

Every time you finish a conversation with a partner, you will have two minutes to fill in the checklist that assesses the conversation they have with you.


Signals

The teacher will have a tambourine. The tambourine will be used to indicate:

  • When to start speaking.
  • When to stop speaking.

You will have three minutes for each conversation.

The teacher will clap their hands to indicate:

  • When to change place and partner.

Only the students sitting in the big circle will move one position. The students in the small circle don´t change place.

What are the steps you need to take?

  1. Sit down in the place assigned by your teacher.
  2. Relax, be quiet and concentrate.
  3. Start looking at your interlocutor in the eye.
  4. When you hear the tambourine, start talking. You have three minutes.
  5. When you hear the tambourine again, stop talking.
  6. Fill in the checklist. You have two minutes.
  7. When you hear your teacher clapping, change place.
  8. Relax, be quiet and concentrate.
  9. Start looking at your interlocutor in the eye.
  10. Repeat steps 4 to 7.

Support material

If you feel a bit insecure about your success in the class date:

  • You can have a paper with some questions and short phrases to help you.
  • You can raise your hand to ask for help from your teacher.

When we have to do an activity, we may have doubts about whether we will be able to do it or not.

In order to overcome these fears in the new activities you have to do, follow these tips:

  1. There are things you do very well. Use them to do the activity.
  2. There are things that are a little difficult for you to do. Try and believe in yourself. I'm sure you will be surprised at what you can achieve.
  3. Some things are very difficult. Look at an example, ask your classmate. Ask the teacher for help.

2. Keep instructions in mind

If you know the instructions well, it will be very easy and fun to participate in any activity. But if you get confused with some of the instructions, you might get nervous and get a bit lost in the process. These exercises will help you to get the hang of it.

3. Group Activity: The Class Date

This can be great fun if you follow the steps, take your interlocutors into account and focus on the experience. 

This activity has a structure and rules. Like every game, if you break the rules, the game is over. If you follow the rules, the game can continue and everybody can have fun. 

You have been working hard to do your best in this activity. You will do a great job. Have good karma and enjoy the interaction with your classmates.
