Option A: Get familiar with summary writing

Option B: Read and find the essential information

Read both texts.

Somebody has written a summary but some main ideas are missing.

Write the missing ideas in your notebook in order to write a complete summary.

SUMMARY:

My friend Amy told me a story.

She was in a shopping centre when she saw a thief running in a black mask.

Some days later, she was dancing when a boy said "hi" to her.

She called the police.

Option D: Write a summary

Read the story about a woman.

Decide what information is essential and should be included in a summary.

Write that information in your notebook.

My grandmother told me about a woman that she knows; this woman has admitted to breaking into more than 100 houses.

She broke into houses to steal money or things she could sell.

But, one day, somebody was at home when she was trying to break into the house, and called the police.

She was caught and arrested and spent 3 years in jail.

Now, she is 43, she has 2 children, and she wants to change her life.

She talked to the police and now she is working with them.

This woman gives advice to the neighbours on how to prevent burglaries.

She tells them what not to do when they are away or how they should lock their houses.

She is the best weapon against crime.

3. Building up information

To reach a goal, you need to be strategic.

That is to say, to have methods, techniques, "tricks" to get to where you want to be sooner or easier.

Now I'm going to teach you a strategy, take advantage of it to reach your challenge!

This strategy is called "How to Do a Summary".

You need to do summaries of the information you are collecting.

A summary helps you to organize your ideas.

In this case, to write a good Police Report, you need to sort out the information and decide whether it is relevant or not.

It will help you to fix facts, times and people.

This strategy will help you to know what you have to do and to achieve the challenge.
