Are you ready for the leading role of your life in a micro theatre play?

1. The role of your life

In groups, choose one of the situations below or come up with a similar one. Write a script and role play it. You must suggest an answer to the conflict shown in the story.

Situation 1

Mike is a very shy student who doesn’t make friends easily. During breaks, he stays alone, talking to no one at all. He feels terrible but doesn’t know how to interact with people.  Sean, who swears and shouts a lot, always asks Mike to give him money because he knows Mike won’t say a word. There are other people in the class who have seen this scene dozens of times but never react.

Situation 2

The class has a new chat group where some students always pick on Mara, a girl who has different hobbies and a different way of dressing. After reading lots of comments against her, the administrator expels her out of the group and she just wants to cry. Nobody has even sent her a message.

Situation 3

A classmate has decided she wants to be an actress in the future and has enrolled in a theatre group. Her family doesn’t think it is a good idea and would like her to forget about that. Her friends support her but don’t know how to help. Their Maths teacher gets on really well with the group and they have decided to ask him for help.

Remember to:

  1. Create a story in which a social conflict is solved through dialogue.
  2. Identify the characters.
  3. Write the script beginning with the introduction of the scene followed by the dialogue.
  4. Draw the characters into the story. They show their emotions, are assertive and empathize with others.
  5. Choose a title.
  6. Create the scene.
  7. Follow a storyline with a rising action, a climax, a falling action and a resolution.
  8. Follow the steps to get ready to go on stage.

Do you think your classmates are excited about this activity? 

When you were doing this group activity, how were they feeling? 

Maybe some of your classmates felt insecure or tense while doing the activity. Maybe someone helped them calm down. Someone was angry, perhaps because they didn't know how to do the task. 

When we work in a team, we can have different feelings. 

Knowing and understanding them will help us do the task successfully. 

Follow these tips for the next team activities: 

- Think about how you are feeling.

- Observe and ask your classmates to find out how they are feeling. 

- Decide as a team what things you can do to feel better before you solve the activity.

3. What have I learnt?

 What you discover by thinking, will help you when you have to meet similar challenges in the future.

 - Ask your teacher whether you will fill it in on paper or on the computer.

 - If you fill it in on the computer, don't forget to save it on your computer when you finish it!
