Past Simple
We use the Past Simple to talk about completed actions in the past.

Affirmative form:
1. Personal pronoun + verb -ed
I travelled to Paris.
You walked home.
She played football.
We danced salsa.
They watched TV.
2. Personal pronoun + irregular verb
I went to school.
You bought a compass.
He met friends.
We rode a bike.
They read a book.

Irregular Verbs
Irregular verbs change in different ways when they are in their past form.
Here is a list of irregular verbs in the infinitive, past and past participle.

Negative form:
Personal pronoun + didn't (did not) + verb
You didn't walk home.
She didn't play football.
We didn't dance salsa.
They didn't watch TV.
You didn't buy a compass.
He didn't meet friends.
You didn't read a newspaper.
*The main verb does not go in the past tense.

Interrogative form:
Did + Personal Pronoun + verb + ?
Did you travel to the United Kingdom?

Time expressions
We use time expressions with the Past Simple to specify when something happened.
Yesterday…
At the weekend...
On Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday / Saturday / Sunday

Pronunciation
When the letter before -ed is either "T" or "D", the pronunciation of the end is -ID: wanted, visited, decided, ended...
When the sound before -ed doesn't vibrate the vocal cords, such as "C", "K", "P", "CH", "SH", "SS", "CK" or "GH", the ending sounds like -T: placed, liked, stopped, watched, smashed, passed, packed, laughed...
When the sound before -ed is vibrating, such as "B", "G", "I", "L", "M", "N", "R", "V", "Y", "Z", the pronunciation es -D: robbed, jogged, died, played, screamed, saved...
