4.2 Awesome descriptions
1. Descriptive adjectives
We can use up to three adjectives to describe objects for our online second hand shop.
We have to write those adjectives in a specific order.
So, let’s watch the video and learn how to use adjectives correctly.

Adjective order
Definition
Adjectives describe people, places, animals or things.
Example: This is a fashionable cotton scarf.
Use
We don’t add “s” or “es” to make plural adjectives.
Example: These are fashionable denim trousers.
We write adjectives before nouns.
Example: This is an aluminium mobile phone.
Adjective order
Firstly, we write adjectives referring to opinion, e.g., “cool.”
Secondly, we write adjectives referring to size, e.g., “big.”.
Thirdly, we write adjectives referring to quality, e.g., “sharp.”
In fourth place, we write adjectives referring to shape, e.g., “round.”
In fifth place, we write adjectives referring to colour, e.g., “orange.”
Finally, we write adjectives relating to material, e.g., “denim.”
Example:
These are fashionable plain cotton shirts.

Option A: Match the pictures and their descriptions
Option B: Listen and choose
Have a look at the picture. Then listen to the recordings and choose the correct option. Decide if they refer to “shopping list 1” or “shopping list 2”.
Option C: Read, write and listen
Put the following sentences in order in your notebook. Then listen to the recordings and check your answers.
1. T-shirt / red/ My brother / cool / has a / cotton
2. plastic / roller skates / She / cute / uses / small
3. tablets / flat / They / have / aluminium / big
4. green / The child / sharp / pencil / has a / wood
5. fashionable / These / shoes / fabric / are / fragile
6. My brother has a cool red cotton T-shirt.
7. She uses cute small plastic roller skates.
8. They have big flat aluminium tablets.
9. The child has a sharp green wood pencil.
