NUMBERS IN ENGLISH

You already know how to count up to 29. Now you will learn how to count from 30 up to 1,000,000! Below you have a white board with numbers. Have a look at it and play the recording below. Later you will do some exercises about numbers.

 WRITING NUMBERS IN ENGLISH

  1. As you already know, units and tens are separated by a hyphen ( - ), for example: 31, 32 and 44. This also happens when we have bigger numbers: 123 (one hundred and twenty-three) or 1,375 (a thousand three hundred and seventy-five).
  2. With big numbers, we use a comma ( , ), not a dot ( . ) as in Spanish: 1,000 and NOT *1.000.
  3. We usually add the word 'and' between 'hundred' and tens: 123 (a hundred and twenty-three).

PRONUNCIATION

-Teen VS. -Ty

The difference, for example, between 15 (fifteen) and 50 (fifty) is not the sound / n / at the end but the stress. Pay attention to the stress in this recording:
