1. Introducing people

 NICE TO MEET YOU, EMILY!

After picking Emily up from the airport, Beatriz takes her to a bar in Triana where she is meeting some friends. Read the text where Beatriz is going to introduce her cousin Emily to some friends... in English!

Después de recoger a Emily del aeropuerto, Beatriz la lleva a un bar en Triana donde va a encontrarse con algunos amigos. Lee el siguiente texto donde Beatriz va a presentar a su prima Emily a algunos amigos... ¡en inglés!

Beatriz: Hi, Juan! How are you? I want to introduce you to my cousin Emily. Emily, this is my good friend Juan. And that girl at the bar is Sara, she is his girlfriend. Juan, this is my cousin Emily.

Juan: Oh, hello! Nice to meet you, Emily.

Emily: Pleased to meet you too.

Juan: You are her cousin, but where are you from?

Emily: I am from the United States. I live in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Juan: And… what do you do?

Emily: Well, right now I am a photographer.

Beatriz: She is great, she takes beautiful pictures.

Emily: What about you, Juan? What’s your job?

Juan: I am an actor, but I don’t earn much money, so I also work as a waiter. This bar is my second home!

Emily: Oh, do you work in this bar?

Juan: Yes, I do. That girl over there is the reason. Can you see that other bar across the street?

Emily: This one? With the red sign?

Beatriz: Oh, no. It's that bar behind those trees.

Emily: Oh, sorry. Yes... er... The name is in English!

Juan: That's right. Triana Jazz Club.

Beatriz: That bar is where he acts.

Emily: Cool! That bar looks awesome!

Now it's your turn. Pay attention to how Beatriz introduces Emily to her friends. She uses expressions like: 'This is...' or 'That is...'. Then, they say 'Nice to meet you' or 'Pleased to meet you'. As you will remember from the previous lesson, they don't kiss but shake hands.

Practice with your partner and introduce a friend of yours to him/her. Take turns.

Ahora es tu turno. Presta atención a cómo Beatriz presenta a Emily a sus amigos. Utiliza expresiones como: 'This is...' o 'That is...'. Después, contestan 'Nice to meet you' o 'Pleased to meet you'.
