Dear student,
Welcome to our online Advanced Level 1 English course.
We hope we are helping you improve your English with our lessons.
This Unit is about technology, the use of technological devices, the language of mobile phones, as well as social media. Our objective is still to help you
A. Improve your language skills:

Listening: we have included three types of podcasts for three types of listening activities. Extensive listening through podcasts which you can read and follow; task-like podcasts for which we recommend you read the instructions closely, play the recording, read the task again, play the recording and THEN, check the audioscript and listen along; finally, the actual listening task which you will read, listen to twice and then correct yourself.
It is important that you bear in mind that Listening is a difficult skill to master so do not cheat on the task-like listenings by following the scripts before carrying out the exercise. This will not help you.

Reading: The reading tasks will help you improve your vocabulary and are an excellent model to see how English is organized through a variety of texts which will vary from brochures to letters, to essays, song lyrics, e-mails and so on.
Speaking: As you know, spoken activities are divided into interactive speaking, in which you will interact with your course mates as well as with your tutor. We strongly recommend you create a study group as soon as possible and start interacting from day one, as you will see how your fluency increases with each interaction; the other spoken activity is a monologue in which you will be expected to speak about a topic for a certain amount of time. This also requires practise so we also recommend you find an international native English e-partner. By telling him or her about where you live, your daily activities, a day at work or the latest movie, you will gain the fluency required.

Writing: This skill is also divided into interaction and essay writing. It is through writing (the skill we always practise less, even in our daily life and mother tongue) you will be able to see your errors and focus on the accuracy needed to move on. Many of us write so little that we forget we must organize our writing pieces in paragraphs, watch our punctuation, make sure we are consistent in our register without mixing formal and informal expressions and so on.

B. Our main objective is to help you gain accuracy and fluency, in order to do this we will exercise and increase our vocabulary (Working with words), our structures (Language Enlightment), our functions (Building blocks), our pronunciation (Properly speaking) and of course, our cultural knowledge (Culture counts) because we need cultural skills to interact appropriately in any given situation.
