INTONATION IN QUESTIONS

                                                                   Intonation in Yes/No Questions is rising

La entonación de las preguntas que pueden contestarse sí/no, las que no llevan una palabra WH- al principio, es RISING. Eso significa ascendente, como si el hablante no hubiera concluido. De las preguntas anteriores, las siguientes tienen rising intonation:

  • Are you from Germany?
  • Is he British?
  • Are we late?
  • Is this right?

                                                                     Intonation in WH- Questions is falling

La entonación de las preguntas que llevan una palabra WH- al principio es FALLING. Eso significa descendente, como si el hablante hubiera concluido. De las preguntas anteriores, las siguientes tienen falling intonation:

  • Where is she?
  • What’s your problem?
  • When is the meeting?
  • Who are they?
