Caso práctico

Imagine you have witnessed some cases of discrimination at work. You decide to learn about its features and ways to avoid it in order to help. After talking to your boss, she asks you to attend a conference to give a short talk about this topic. You will:

  • Watch a video about discrimination at work.
  • Read a text about mobbing and bullying.
  • Do use-of-English activities related to the structures and vocabulary of unit 3.
  • Write a fax cover letter to sign up for the conference.
  • Record yourself talking about mobbing, bullying or discrimination.

4. Writing (1,5 points)

Your boss is interested in the International Association on Workplace Bullying and Harassment and she wants you to participate giving a one-or-two-minute talk about mobbing.

Send a fax cover sheet to this association asking for your own participation. Include, at least, the following information in the notes:

  • Details about your company and the association (you can make up any)
  • Notes with the title of your presentation, a proposed date and a brief description of what you are going to talk about (between 100 -150 words).  Try to use the lexis and structures of unit 3 as much as possible.
  • Reference to any attached documents you want to include.

  4. Speaking (1,5 points)

Imagine you have been accepted to give a one-or-two-minute talk about mobbing at the next conference of the International Association on Workplace Bullying and Harassment. Think of your speech and record yourself.

You may make references to:

  • the reasons why unacceptable behaviour must be stopped
  • how it affects the victims
  • what a perfect environment at work would be like
  • any information you find interesting in the previous activities of this task.
