CONOCIMIENTO PREVIO

SPELLING
  1. As you already know, units and tens are separated by a hyphen ( - ), for example: 31, 32 and 44. This also happens when we have bigger numbers: 123 (one hundred and twenty-three) or 1,375 (a thousand three hundred and seventy-five).
  2. Pay attention to how we write a thousand (or a million) in English. We use a comma ( , ), not a dot ( . ) as in Spanish: 1,000 and NOT *1.000. It's true that the comma is sometimes omitted.
  3. We usually add the word 'and' between 'hundred' and tens: 123 (a hundred and twenty-three).

PRONUNCIATION
  1. In American English, the sound / t / in 30, 40, 80 is pronounced / r /. Listen to it:
  2. In American English, the sound / t / in 20, for example, is not pronounced. Listen to it:
  3. The difference, for example, between 15 (fifteen) and 50 (fifty) is not the sound / n / at the end but the stress. Pay attention to the stress in this recording:

READING

Americans sometimes read digits in a different way. Compare the way the same number is pronounced:

4,400          1,200          7,800
