Here are three expressions to ask for the time. The second form is more polite. |

Here are three ways to tell the time. We use the first sentence to talk about the exact time. The second and the third sentences mean that the time is approximate. almost means that it is two or three minutes to 8 o'clock. about means approximately 8 o'clock (say 7.58,7.59 or 8.01, 8.02 |

Now, telling the time is easy. You need two prepositions. |
TO = before for example: It's five to nine means that it is 8:55 (five minutes before nine) PAST = after for example: It is ten past nine means that it is 09:10 (ten minutes after nine) |
You need two key words |
QUARTER = 15 minutes for example: It's (a) quarter past eleven means that is is 11:15 (fifteen minutes after eleven) It's (a) quarter to eleven means that it is 10:45 (fifteen minutes before ten) HALF = 30 minutes for example: It's half past eleven means that it's 11:30 (thirty minutes after eleven) WARNING ! YOU CANNOT USE "HALF TO" |
